Infoboxing

Privacy

Infoboxing has no accounts, and you don't need cookies or any personal details to play. This page describes everything the site keeps on your device and everything it sends elsewhere.

On your device

Your progress is saved in your browser's local storage, so a reload keeps your place and a round can't be guessed twice. For each bout you play it keeps the date, the bout number, your guess and outcome for each round, and how far you have got. Your choice of light or dark theme is saved there too. The site never uploads this record and never deletes it; you can clear it at any time in your browser's settings for this site.

Analytics

Infoboxing counts visits with GoatCounter, an analytics service that sets no cookies and keeps nothing in your browser. Each time you open a page, GoatCounter receives the page's address and title, the site you came from, your browser's user agent, your screen width, and your IP address. It also counts three moments in the game: starting a bout, finishing one (with how many rounds you got right), and pressing Share.

With the settings Infoboxing uses, GoatCounter stores only totals, such as how many visits came from each browser, operating system, country, language, and screen width. It does not store your IP address or full user agent, and nothing it stores can be traced back to you. To avoid counting a reload as a new visit, it keeps a combination of your IP address and user agent in memory, never on disk, for up to eight hours. Its privacy policy has the details.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Amazon Web Services. Like any web host, it receives your IP address and browser details when it delivers a page. Your browser requests each bout, and the list of past bouts, from the site's own API, which is hosted there too and receives the same details, with the date of the bout.

Contact form

A message sent through the contact form is emailed to the site's owner, with your email address so they can reply. It is not stored anywhere else, and your address is used for nothing but the reply.

Ads

Infoboxing is free to play, with space set aside for ads from Google AdSense. When ads are shown, third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites. Google's advertising cookies let it and its partners show you ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. Even ads that are not personalised use cookies, to limit how often you see an ad and to prevent fraud.

Where the law requires your consent, as in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, a consent tool asks for it before any ad cookies are set, and stores your answer in your browser. You can change your answer through the same tool at any time. Anywhere, you can turn off personalised ads in Google's My Ad Center, and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Other ad networks may also serve ads through AdSense and set their own cookies. You can turn off personalised ads from many of them at www.aboutads.info/choices.

Ads are not running yet, so no ad code loads, no ad cookies are set, and the consent tool is not active.
