About Infoboxing
Infoboxing is a daily guessing game played on Wikipedia infoboxes, the panels of key facts at the top of many Wikipedia articles. Each day's bout has five rounds, starting easy. A round shows one infobox with the subject's name, its images, and other versions of the name masked out. You get one guess at the article's title, or you can throw in the towel. Either way, the answer is then revealed, with the infobox unmasked and a link to the article. A name the infobox shows, such as a birth name, isn't the answer, so guessing one doesn't use up your guess. Get all five right and it's a knockout.
A new bout starts at midnight where you are. Bouts you missed stay playable in the archive.
Where the infoboxes come from
Every infobox comes from English Wikipedia and was written by Wikipedia's volunteer editors. Their text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence. Infoboxing restyles each infobox and masks names in it; these adapted infoboxes are shared under the same licence. After each round, the answer reveal names the article, links to the exact revision the infobox was captured from, and gives the date it was captured.
Images have their own authors and licences, which are credited under each infobox on the answer reveal. Non-free images are not shown: Wikipedia uses some images, such as film posters, album covers, and logos, under fair-use rules that cover only its own articles.
Where one of these would stand, the answer reveal shows a freely licensed image of the same subject from Wikidata, such as its logo, where one suits, or else draws a stand-in in the image's colours, with the article's title set in type, and links to the article on Wikipedia, which shows the image. Nothing of the image is kept but its average colours on a grid eight cells across.
Infoboxes are captured ahead of time and checked for changes the day before they are played, so one may differ from the current article. This is most likely for bouts in the archive, which is why the archive shows when each infobox was captured.
